The Wellbeing Drop in for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Volunteer Helpers was set up at the Tara Centre early in 2017 after consultation with local asylum seekers and service providers. The aim of the weekly drop in is to offer a warm welcome and the healing power of touch, and visitors are offered 20 minute relaxation sessions such as a back massage, neck and shoulder massage, foot massage, reflexology or healing free of charge. We’ve received positive feedback from those who have attended regularly in terms of improved sleep, lessened pain and anxiety, and improved confidence.
The drop-in is staffed entirely by professional therapists who volunteer their time to the project and is coordinated by Dr Elham Kashefi. We’re deeply grateful for the love and generosity of all our volunteers and supporters and feel so proud that our city is able to meet the needs of asylum seekers and volunteer helpers.
If you’re a therapist and would like to volunteer please get in touch with Elham on 07830107008 or via the website.
