Chanting for Peace
11am every Monday morning – Chanting for Peace with Elham Kashefi at the Tara Centre, The Storey, Lancaster. £5 donation to the Centre rent fund
The Gayatri mantra is a universal prayer, a sacred chant, and a meditation. It is an invocation of the life force within all of us and within the universe. Chanting this mantra with the intention of creating peace is a deeply moving practice which will leave you feelilng balanced, relaxed and energised.
The mantra is recorded in an ancient Hindu text (the Rigveda) which dates back to over 3000 years ago and is said to have been given to a sage as a gift to all humanity. Chanting the Gayatri mantra in a group is an absolutely beautiful heart opener and it really is a great way to start your day and your week.
No singing experience necessary – this is not a singing group but a meditation group so please don’t worry about what you may or may not sound like. And you can always sit and listen and benefit from hearing the mantra whilst holding your intention for peace.
We will hand out sheets with the words if you need them. We’ll be chanting the short form which is:
OM BUHR, BHUVAHA SWAHA
TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM
BHARGO DEVASYA DHEEMAHI
DHIYO YONAHA PRACHODAYAT
